When we talk about "True" Black Metal, we must fully understand the mythos of the genre and what it is intended to represent. Anti-Religion, Emptiness, Despair and a void of feelings must resonate and be portrayed. A dedication the most ancient sounds and atmospheres must envelope the band and their work entirely. ARKONA are one such band that absolutely adhere to this ancient philosophy and they get it right. This recording is filled with Black Metal that is true to its core, cold and vacuous! With production that is fitting to the time and to the core principals of the genre "An Eternal Curse of The Pagan Godz" will satiate your thirst for early and pure "True" or "Cult" Black Metal!
Formed in the fiery and grim year of 1993, Poland's ARKONA answered the call from the North and took up torches of their own! While we recognize ARKONA is an often-overlooked name, alongside GRAVELAND and early BEHEMOTH, ARKONA helped shaped the Polish black metal sound of the '90s and continue to this day honoring their ancient sound and vision for "True" or if you prefer "Cult" Black Metal.
In 1994, ARKONA released their first demo, "An Eternal Curse of the Pagan Godz". This first recording was truly a sign of the times: recording that was rough and raw yet clear, hysteric vocals, tempos that spanned the blast beaten and a statelier gait, and a tasteful layer of funereal organ. Still, ARKONA's debut demo emitted a uniquely Slavic aspect, which helped push Polish black metal in its own direction more removed from their Scandinavian contemporaries. And that scene would further take on a life of its own by the time ARKONA released their debut album in 1996, "Imperium", but that's a whole different (and dark) story all its own… As it stands, their "An Eternal Curse of the Pagan Godz" demo recording hasn’t lost any of its potency nor mysticism over the past three decades.
