DETERIORATE’s long-buried second album The Senectuous Entrance finally returns from the depths of the U.S. underground, resurrected for its 30th anniversary through a collaboration between Dark Horizon Records and Paragon Records. Originally released in 1996 and largely unseen for decades, the album stands as one of the most obscure and fiercely cult artifacts of early American Blackened Death Metal.

This new edition has been fully remastered by Tore Stjerna at the legendary Necromorbus Studio, whose work with MAYHEM, WATAIN, FUNERAL MIST, LEVIATHAN, and others has shaped the sound of modern extreme metal. His mastering restores clarity and atmosphere without sacrificing the raw, unhinged violence of the original recording.

The layout has been completely reimagined by Lord Typhus (DHR), featuring a refreshed version of the original cover, expanded booklet materials, era-accurate photos, and full lyrics. As a major bonus, this edition includes an unreleased alternate version of “Devoured,” a lost track from the Rotting In Hell era that has remained unheard for nearly three decades.

Formed in 1991 in Philadelphia, DETERIORATE carved their place in the early wave of U.S. Death Metal with their 1992 demo and their 1993 debut Rotting In Hell, a release now considered a cornerstone of early ’90s American extremity. After a second demo in 1994, the band resurfaced with The Senectuous Entrance in 1996 — a release that slipped into obscurity but has since grown into a cult relic of the deep underground.

Musically, The Senectuous Entrance is a volatile hybrid of high-speed black-metal atmosphere and old-school death-metal ferocity. The album’s early tracks channel the cold, windswept grandeur of Sacramentum, Dissection, Dawn, and Immortal, while later movements shift toward the violent pulse of Necrophobic, Brutality, Morbid Angel, and Malevolent Creation. The result is a uniquely American strain of Blackened Death Metal — ambitious, intense, and at times overwhelming in its conceptual density.
