Here we have the second release by England's FOREFATHER. As you step back in time and listen to "The Fighting Man" you will hear FOREFATHER experimenting with more blackish sounding riffs with perhaps a hidden influence of atmospheric UKBM like FEN, WODENSTHRONE, or WINTERFYLLETH. FOREFATHER switch between fast, energetic riffs with heaps of folk melody and heritage pride on top and mid-tempo atmospheric black metal that is compositionally tight and very artistically focused, as is the draw with many of the followers of the band. Refining the sound they delivered on the first album, "The Fighting Man" continues exploring certain aspects of that sound but a bit more in depth this time around. The song writing is very well done and because the riffs all fall into a similar paradigm the music has continuity despite the dramatic variances in speed. All in all, this is another very good album from FOREFATHER, and you always know what you're going to get from them, but you're not quite sure how exactly they're going to serve it to you.
