IMPALED NORTHERN MOONFOREST is one of those wonderfully strange corners of music history — a parody band that accidentally became legendary! Formed in 1997 by Seth Putnam and Josh Martin of ANAL CUNT, with the whole idea being, to poke fun at the ultra-lo-fi, hyper-grim aesthetic of early Norwegian black metal. And in a legend told by Seth that someone was sleeping nearby when they decided to record, they used only an acoustic guitar and improvised percussion (including knee-slapping and a mattress). That hilarious and intentional limitation became their entire identity!
Here’s the funny part:
Even though the project was meant as a joke — no rehearsing, no real songwriting, just chaotic spaztic improved noise acoustic, quote - unquote, "black metal" — it gained a cult following. Their self-titled 7-inch demo was limited to 200 hand-numbered copies and has become a rare collectible selling for up to $100 or more per copy nowadays! Fucking Hilarious!
You either get the joke, or you don't, just like with other Seth Putnam projects like ANAL CUNT or VAGINAL JESUS!
