"Epitaph" is the extension of the formula set forth on "Onset Of Putrefaction". You can clearly hear that while creating the songs for the "Epitaph", NECRPHAGIST were able to maintain the previous, very high level of musicianship without any problems. The surprising thing is that this album turned out to be the last release under the NECROPHAGIST name. "Epitaph" is an ingenious technical death metal masterpiece to some, while flying right over the heads of most. This album shows the incredible creativity and craftsmanship of the band. It is surprisingly melodic, often breaking into brilliant, sweeping arpeggiated motifs. As expected of a technical death metal album, the rhythmic structures are layered complexities, and are spanning several complex motifs. To those who enjoy over the top technicality "Epitaph" is a richly textured album, one that will take several listening sessions to wrap your head around and truly appreciate. The song "Stabwound" exemplifies the brilliance of this album, period. This band is for those who indulge in absolute technicality which goes beyond the threshold of the layman. NECROPHAGIST will pummel you with brilliant technical death metal.
