SETH are one of the bands willing to incorporate experimentation within there sound, and it's within this tradition that French band SETH created their debut "Les Blessures De l'Ame." Now reissued by Season of Mist with new artwork, now is the time to check this album out if you missed it in the past. This is an album to which a close listen will reveal specific attention paid to layers of detail. Obviously the band has taken great pains to create complex, multi-layered arrangements, giving the work an interesting identity and texture. The music of "Les Blessures De l'Ame." conjures a true sense of the time and place in the halls of long ago black metal. A cold atmosphere permeates the music, while the extensive use of piano throughout the album adds a rich, post-Renaissance flow. The Atmosphere is key, but never at the expense of brutality or grim harshness which fits well the Black Metal aesthetic. The details of the arrangements can be fully detected by the listener while maintaining an ugly charm which really offers the overall effect the band intended to present. Overall this is a solid release, one that was well thought-out. Open-minded fans of the genre will find something refreshing here.
