Formed in 1996 by the Swedish-born multi-instrumentalist and composer Niklas Kvarforth, SHINING quickly gained a devoted and loyal fanbase of cutters and wrist slicers, as well as many influenced new bands and of course imitators. Kvarforth the sole remaining original member would go on and introduce the world to a sightly darker and more oppressive version of of the band and an evolution to what Black Metal started turning into by the end of the nineties.
Musically shrouded in an undeniable originality, and unfortunately overshadowed by the many controversies, "scandals" and unpredictable behavior shown towards media and fans. The last known line-up fell apart by the end of 2023, and since then no interviews have been given. The current status of SHINING is at the time being, unknown.
