TROLL was one of Nagash’s earliest and strongest outlets, long before the later stylistic detours. Drep De Kristne stands as his purest expression of traditional Norwegian black metal — sharp, cold, hostile, and unmistakably rooted in the early era. The album channels a scornful anti-Christian atmosphere delivered from the perspective of a malicious forest troll, giving it a strange but memorable thematic edge. Musically, this is one of the darker symphonic black metal releases of its time: icy riffs, grim keyboard layers, and a raw underground spirit that predates the bombast the genre later became known for. While there are faint traces of the folk-tinged bounce associated with bands like Finntroll or Korpiklaani, they’re subdued — never playful, always sinister. Grim guitars with vocals that gurgle, rasp, and spit venom, carrying the album’s trollish hatred with conviction. Between the harsher assaults, Drep De Kristne opens into spacey, epic passages that maintain a bleak, bitter aura throughout. It’s a fascinating snapshot of the past: a raw, gloomy, and genuinely dark symphonic black metal record from an era when atmosphere mattered more than polish.

If you long for the days of old, and are one who appreciates the colder edge of early symphonic black metal you will recognize a kindred darkness similar to OLD MAN’S CHILD, COVENANT, CARPE TENEBRUM, ANCIENT, MYSTIC CIRCLE, GEHENNA, TARTAROS, ODIUM, ABYSSOS, THRONE OF KATARSIS. Those sworn to the old ways often describe Drep De Kristne as sitting at the crossroads between raw Norwegian tradition and the shadowy, keyboard-laden atmosphere these bands helped define — grim, spacious, and unmistakably rooted in the early era.
