In the black metal-rich year of 1997 UNLORD unleashed their debut album, "Schwarzwald". Adorned with appropriately hell fiery cover art, "Schwarzwald" very much sounded - and looked - like its era and was all the better for it. And yet, crucially, UNLORD offer a variety of songcraft across the 13-track album whilst keeping a focus on the cryogenically cold and violent. Not once drifting from the truly grim atmosphere, their usage of synths is sparing and tasteful, and on "Schwarzwald" UNLORD set forth a sterling standard of production which was remarkably clear and crisp, but without ever sacrificing the power and ferocity unleashed in their music.
