Pressing from 1994 on Metal Blade Records in excellent condition. The first studio album from VOIVOD "War And Pain".
VOIVOD are a Canadian thrash band influenced by the NWOBHM, Hardcore and Progressive Rock. VOIVOD are easily identifiable by their use of unusual time signatures, dissonant guitar chords and lyrical themes influenced by post-apocalyptic literature, cold war politics and science fiction.
"War And Pain" starts with a quiet, dark intro punctuated by Snake's mad "Voivod" scream which is followed by 42 minutes of Thrash insanity without much breathing room. Back then Voivod were simply categorized as "Thrash Metal", before they pushed the experimentation further on their later albums. However, on "War And Pain" musically things get a somewhat complicated - basically it's Thrash, but with so much more, blended in - with some juiced up NWOBHM-style solos, and we would say Motörhead had quite an influence on them as well. Behind the omnipresent thrash metal onslaught is something that other bands didn't do at the time, layered and complex rhythms which give a slight glimpse of things to come for the band. All in all this is a fucking classic that should not be left out of any true Thrash connoisseurs collection.
