WURM are an interesting mixture of depressive black metal with a certain quality which sets them apart from the norm. The production alone sets WURM and "Aux portes de l'agonie" apart from the typical. The recording isn’t crystal clear, but it is audible, and it strangely gives the whole atmosphere a bleak and grim sense of loss. A majority of black metal bands have become accustomed to bands imitating a certain style, particularly that of the second wave, but Mortenak has altered our perception. Grim in it's presentation yet buried within are some interesting and quite haunting riffs filled with "true" atmosphere. Followers of the purest forms of black metal shall rejoice in this grim throwback.
