Remember the first, time you heard ULVER, TENHI or EMPYRIUM albums? You may get the same sort of feeling after taking a listen to Finland's OCTOBER FALLS full discography. The 2008 album titled "The Womb of Primordial Nature" evolves the sound M. Lehto created on the first two albums by incorporating a richly satisfying mix of death, black, doom, folk, and progressive metal. Somber and full of melancholy, harshly dramatic yet utterly tranquil at the same time. This four-track and almost 40-minute journey combines the elegant, pensive acoustics from the early albums now blended with a black metal attack to conjure an earthy, dynamic atmosphere. On first listen, it could remind you of AGALLOCH, DRUDKH, or ULVER's yearning tones. While the sound of OCTOBER FALLS was originally rooted in mournful folk, the new direction has encompassed soaring melodies of Finnish melodic black, death and doom metal which is an interesting and unique approach M. Lehto has carved for "The Womb of Primordial Nature".
DHR were responsible for releasing the first two epic folk albums "Marras" & "Tuoni" for the USA back in 2005, and both albums can be found at DHR Bandcamp page.
